Rheumatoid Arthritis can be corelated to a disease called as Aamavata which includes the Aama ie the indigested material which produce toxins which lead to the abnormal changes in body along with the viciated vata- ie the dosha present in the body which gets imbalanced in the body due to many causes,

We see many symptoms like pain, heavy feeling in joints and bone rites like pain, along with symptom like bad appetite, along with these where the viciated Aama moves it shows or presents in form of severe pain, catch feeling. Restricted movements, Decreased sensation.

Person having

  • Low appetite
  • No physical exercise
  • Abnormal combination of food items.
  • Very oily items
  • or rather exercise suddenly after meals.

Rheumatiod Arthritis is inflamatory disease of many joints manifested due to systemic causes.

The causes are divided in 2 parts

1. Excess excretion or extra exercises that leads to abnormal increase in Vata dosha.

2. Regular Abnormal and oily food items which leads to production of Aama.

The above causes lead to production of viciated Vatadosh and Aams

This gets collected and starts moving through the blood vessels and spreads all over the body.

The viciated dosha and Aama gets collected in the specific sites of body parts which are more prone to it like the joints, head, chest..

As accumulates in chest complains like weakness, heaviness, in chest etc. symptoms are seen.

Feeling of heaviness for the whole body.

Abnormal circulation of Aama and Vata all over the body.

Sequency stiffness and pain in sites of joints.

The pain or similar condition are seen on a shifting pattern on all joints. When the symptoms are seen on one joints the next day may be it could have shifted on another joint leaving the previous joint back to normal. It is due to the momentary circulation and pathology of Aama and Vata dosha.

The pain experienced by a person in Aamavata is very intense and severe and unbearable so it is more compared to the pain given by a scorpion bite.Along with these there, are many other corelated symptoms seen like.

  • Less or decreased appetite.

If more chronic conditions could have complications like cardiac problems like enlargement of heart, cardiac muscle stiffness, chest pain, deformed joints, hot, burning joints, cracking sounds in joints along with stiffness and pain.

The main line of treatment deals with management of the Aama.

Hence procedures like

  • Langhana(Dietary and digestive changes)
  • Sudation
  • Bitter and pungent recessive drugs

Menopausal syndrome

Menopause happens. It’s a natural transition, says ayurveda, and like all transitions, menopause has to be managed to minimize discomfort.

Why menopause discomfort occurs ?
Since menopause is the transition from the Pitta phase of life to the Vata phase, if a woman already has a significant Pitta or Vata imbalance in the years before menopause, things are likely to get worse during menopause, which is a period when hormonal and other natural changes take place in the body.

Another factor leading to menopausal imbalances is the accumulation of digestive impurities (ama) in the physiology. Ama blocks the channels that transport nutrition to the cells and remove waste from the body, and thus contributes to menopausal problems.

A third factor is the misuse or overuse of the mind, body, emotions, or senses much ongoing stress or pressure, or is doing work that is too “heavy” for her body, or is under tremendous emotional stress.

Joints System

The Ayurvedic perspective
Ayurveda identifies two major types of joint problems. The first type is associated with poorly nourished joints or low bone density and overall weakness in the joints. This kind of problem starts with some discomfort, a cracking sound, and if not taken care of, results in eventual immobilization of the joints. Because the bone is not getting the nourishment it needs, it starts to degenerate. The second kind is associated with a toxins in the body. As ama (the sticky, toxic waste-product of incomplete digestion) accumulates in the joint, it first creates stiffness and heaviness. If it stays there for a long time, the joint can become swollen and painful. Damp, cold weather can aggravate this type of joint problem.

Vata related joint problem
When vata, which is the aspect of vata that governs the circulation and nerve impulses, is aggravated, the first type of joint problem can occur. The person’s circulation, metabolism, and ability to absorb food are weakened; as a result, the bone tissue does not receive enough nourishment and eventually starts to degenerate. The imbalance in vata and the weakened circulation, metabolism and absorption create a drying effect on Kapha, governs lubrication of the joints. When this happens, the joints are not lubricated properly and this creates the discomfort, cracking sound, and diminished flexibility.

Ama-related joint problem
This second type of joint problem is really a problem of ama (digestive toxins) in the joints, and is characterized by a heavy, stiff feeling. Sometimes about of cold, humid weather can trigger these symptoms. That is the first stage. If nothing is done to dissolve the ama and it sits in the joints for a long time, eventually the ama converts to Amavisha, an even more toxic form of ama that is more irritating and reactive in nature. Amavisha causes the joint to become inflamed, swollen, and painful. In this kind of environment, ama also mixes with the natural lubricating fluids in the joint governed by it. Kapha, forming an extremely sticky, toxic substance restricts mobility and disturbs circulation in the joint. If the same stay in the joints unattended to for a long time, eventually the structure of the joints and the bone itself becomes damaged. Once these morphological changes happen to the joint and bone, it becomes extremely difficult to correct.

Immunity System

Ways to boost natural Immunity
There is a theory of immunity in ayurveda caked the beej-bhumi theory, which means “seed and land”. In this case, the body is analogous to the land, and infection or “bugs” are like seeds. If the body is filled with ama and lacking in ojas, the infection will find it to be fertile ground for spreading, just as land that is fertile will sprout many seeds. If digestion is strong, and ojas rather than ama predominates in the body, then the seeds of infection will not be able to take hold, just as seeds will not take root in land that is infertile.

Everyone is more susceptible to respiratory problems when the seasons are changing, such as in the fall and early spring. This is because the body functions differently in each season, and in the transition between the hot and cold seasons the agni, or digestive fire, can start to fluctuate dramatically. If you do not adjust your diet and routine and follow the ayurvedic guidelines for the seasonal transitions, you can build up ama. Once the body is fertile for disease, it is easy for a cold or flu to sprout, as in the seed and land theory mentioned earlier.

That is why respiratory illnesses and allergies abound in the fall and early spring. In the early spring, there is an added factor, because ama accumulated during the winter starts to melt, flooding the micro-channels and overloading the immune system. The body’s immune system is weakened, and becomes a fertile ground for bacteria and allergens.
